  • Medical Laboratory Specialty Titles:

    • Bachelor’s degree in the specialty field, OR

       
    • BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology with one (1) year emphasis in the specialty area.

       
    • For some specialties, certification by recognized international boards such as ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) is required.



 

  • Clinical Scientist:

    • BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology/Science plus MSc in a relevant specialty, OR

       
    • BSc plus a Ph.D. in a relevant specialty field.

       

 

Experience Requirements

Experience requirements vary depending on the title and level of specialization. A Medical Laboratory Technician with the necessary academic qualifications is not required to have prior work experience, making this role accessible to fresh graduates. Similarly, Medical Laboratory Technologists with a bachelor’s degree are also not required to demonstrate prior experience. However, when applying for specialty titles, the requirements are stricter. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree and specialty training or ASCP certification must show at least two years of post-qualification experience. Those who hold only a bachelor’s degree without specialty emphasis need a minimum of four years of experience. In contrast, Clinical Scientists with a BSc and MSc are expected to have at least three years of post-qualification experience, whereas those with a Ph.D. need two years of relevant work experience.
